According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), almost 40% of global employment is exposed to AI, with certain industries more exposed to AI-driven automation than others.
For assessing the level of AI preparedness across countries AI Preparedness Index has been prepared and applied across 174 countries, based on a rich set of macro-structural indicators that cover the countries’ digital infrastructure, human capital and labor market policies, innovation and economic integration, and regulation and ethics.
AIPI is the sum of four key dimensions: digital infrastructure, human capital, technological innovation, and legal frameworks. These four dimensions are likely relevant for smooth AI adoption. In turn, each dimension is computed by normalizing and averaging a rich set of sub-indicators including, but not limited to, the presence of relevant digital infrastructure, sustained human capital investment, inclusive STEM expertise, labor and capital mobility, a vibrant R&D ecosystem, and the adaptability of legal frameworks to digital business models.
Digital Infrastructure covers indicators related to Accessible, affordable, and secured internet access and Mature e-commerce and government digital infrastructure.
Human Capital and Labor Market Policies include Education and digital skills and Labor market flexibility and policies.
Innovation and Economic Integration includes indicators covering Innovation and Economic integration.
Regulation and Ethics includes indicators covering Strong legal frameworks and enforcement mechanisms.
Singapore ranks first as the country most prepared for smooth AI adoption.
The country has invested hundreds of millions of dollars into boosting AI capabilities and supporting national AI strategies. Singaporean workers are also the world’s fastest in adopting AI skills, according to LinkedIn. The Singapore government has even developed a suite of general-purpose AI tools for public service officers, which still adhere to strict security standards.
Second place is the Denmark (score 0.78) and third is the USA (score is 0.77).
Armenia’s score is 0.49, while Georgia is 0.53 and Russia is 0.56. The lowest score is in Afghanistan 0.13.
Separately, McKinsey cited nine “digital front-runners,” consisting of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Luxembourg, Norway, Ireland, and Belgium, as being well-prepared for AI adoption due to their advanced digital infrastructure, skilled workforce, supportive policy environments, and high levels of corporate AI adoption.
